Spring training scores: Puig throws out Trout, Profar hits a slam, Tanaka starts

In the first inning between the Angels and Dodgers, Mike Trout hit a ball past a diving Yasiel Puig that set up the sixth replay review of the spring. Trout attempted to score on the play but the relay from Puig to Hanley Ramirez to A.J. Ellis got there in time and Trout was ruled out at the plate.

Angels' manager Mike Scioscia came out to argue, but the umpires' review upheld the call. They ended up going into extra innings largely due to a sixth inning grand slam from Scott Van Slyke and a ninth inning three-run blast from C.J Cron.

Jurickson Profar continued to prepare for his first full-time major league job on Thursday with a two-out, first pitch grand slam in the sixth inning of the Rangers' 8-4 win over the Padres. Elvis Andrus, Prince Fielder, and Michael Choice each collected two hits in the victory.

One of the newest White Sox players made an impression on Thursday, as Adam Eaton mixed three hits with a steal despite his team being outscored by the Mariners, 8-4. Eaton notched a single in each of the first, third, and fifth innings.

Perhaps most noteworthy, however, was the man who roamed right field for the Sox, Keenyn Walker. After Eaton's third inning single moved him to third, Walker stole home with Gordon Beckham standing at the plate.

Travis Wood and Justin Masterson both offered three fine innings during the Indians' 1-0 win on Thursday. Wood held the Indians to just one hit while mixing in three strikeouts, but Masterson allowed three hits and a walk while matching Wood's three strikeouts and zero runs.

Trevor Bauer also threw two innings in the game as he works toward a shot at the 2014 rotation. He allowed three hits and walk, but struck out four while allowing no runs and reaching the upper 90s in the process.

Masahiro Tanaka took the mound for the Yankees on Thursday against the Phillies and threw three solid innings in which he walked one and struck out one. The only real blemish came when light hitting infielder Freddy Galvis took him deep with two outs in the third.

Jeter also doubled on his way to a two-hit day in the Yankees' 4-3 win. John Mayberry Jr. added a home run and diving catch for good measure as well.

The Red Sox got three one-hit innings out of Allen Webster while Nathan Eovaldi gave the Marlins two strong innings that featured four strikeouts and a ground rule double by Alex Hassan.

The A's and Diamondbacks played to a 8-8, 10-inning tie on Thursday, but the story for both teams was how poorly their starting pitchers performed.

Sonny Gray went just one inning as he surrendered four runs on five hits while Trevor Cahill hung around for three innings, but did so as he allowed six runs on eight hits and two home runs.
