The Daily Puig: Yasiel Puig crushes baseball, Miguel Montero’s extra-base dreams

Whenever you’re down about Yasiel Puig, remember that he can do this. And also that.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

It's hilarious when Yasiel Puig shows off both the downside and upside to his style of play within a minute's time, but the best Puig out there is when he's nothing but unrivaled athletic dominance on a baseball field. Sunday was just that kind of game for him, with the Dodgers playing the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles.

In the top of the second inning, Miguel Montero laces a liner into right field, and since it's far away from Puig at the outset, he takes off for second base. This was a mistake:

Vin Scully, who has seen 100 million baseball games or so in his 65 seasons as an announcer for the Dodgers, even seems taken aback by Puig’s arm on this play, and he gets to watch Puig every day. To be fair to anyone with eyeballs, though, this looked like an easy double for Montero, until it wasn’t.

Puig-throw-1

As Scully said, it’s a tremendous throw, even for Puig.

That would have been enough to make it an impressive day for Puig, but a few innings later, he put the Dodgers up 4-1 thanks to this shot that got out of the park with the same swiftness as the throw he nabbed Montero with:

Puig-homer

I’m upset at every camera operator at the park for not properly capturing Puig’s emphatic bat flip on this shot. Puig deserves better than that. We all deserve better than that.
