The Daily Puig: Yasiel Puig fails on foul ball, but this fan did not

Inspired by Puig, we’re sure.

USA TODAY Sports

Yasiel Puig is an all-out kind of guy, but even he knows when to take things back a notch. Take this foul ball, for instance, where Puig realizes he's about to slam into the wall if he doesn't slow up, and slows down just enough to admit that not dying is more important than catching this particular ball in play:

Puig-crash

At least until he doesn’t make the catch, anyway. But hey, he’s also not hurt. The catch would have been great, as most that occur in that teeny foul space have to be in order to even happen, but it was just as likely Puig snared it and lost it after slamming into the wall even harder if he hadn’t let up a little.

The next inning, Puig came to bat and fouled his own pitch to the right side of the field. This was completely out of play, but was moving at an angle where the danger was in it colliding with a fan’s face. Somehow, a fan in the upper levels snared it out of mid-air with their bare hands:

Fan-puig-catch

No one is as surprised as the fan that caught it. That, or their hands are in tremendous pain and they don’t want anyone else to know.
