Adam Jones sounds off on fans running on the field

The Orioles outfielder had harsh words for a pair of fans who ran onto the field on Tuesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Adam Jones homered and doubled in the Orioles' 14-5 victory over the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, but came out even stronger against a pair of fans who ran onto the field during the eighth inning on Tuesday in the Bronx.

More fans running on the field

“I let them know how I felt, obviously a lot of choice words because I think it’s idiotic for people to run on the field and I think the punishment needs to be a lot harsher, and they should let us have a shot to kick them with our metal spikes on because it’s stupid,” said Jones, who yelled at the fans as they were escorted off the field by security guards, per ESPN. “Your [butt] is going to jail with a fine, and you might not be allowed to come back to the ballpark.”

The fans ran onto the field when the Orioles were batting in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jones was not pleased.

“I remember a couple of years ago, one dude broke his ankle in Baltimore,” Jones said, per Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com. “I was laughing at him. I wish he shattered his femur because it’s stupid. It’s just plain old stupid. Anybody who does it, I wish the cops tase the living [crap] out of them. I wish that.”

One of the fans briefly hid behind Baltimore second baseman Ryan Flaherty, who took the incident more lightly than did Jones, per Ghiroli:

“I wasn’t sure whether to get out of the way of the guy or tackle him,” Flaherty said. “He was there, but it was kind of funny.”
