Alcides Escobar turns bobble into highlight-reel catch

It looks like an accident until you peer a little closer.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Royals' shortstop Alcides Escobar made what looked like a sloppy and lucky play against the Rays when he fielded this pop-up by way of a bobble:

Escobar-bobble

Turns out, though, thanks to the wonders of alternate angles and instant replay, that Escobar was far more in control of the situation than we could have guessed:

Escobar-bobble-replay

The ball looks like it’s going to slip out of its snow cone state, so Escobar flips his glove backwards and catches it cleanly (with two hands!) on the way down. I’m sorry I ever doubted you, Alcides.
