Unfortunately for the Twins, who already lost mutant-power prospect Miguel Sano to Tommy John surgery, Byron Buxton has been limited this season with injuries. During spring training, Buxton injured his left wrist diving for a fly ball. He returned from the minor league disabled list on May 4, but re-injured his wrist on Thursday. The team is hopeful that the injury isn't serious, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. After an MRI, Buxton will likely rest for a few days at the very least.

Buxton is everyone's favorite prospect. MLB.com, Baseball Prospectus, Baseball America, FanGraphs ... everybody pretty much agrees that the 20-year-old center fielder will be something special. Like, Willie Mays special.

Baseball Prospectus’ Jason Parks had Buxton’s major league ETA listed as “late 2014,” which would’ve been extremely exciting for Twins fans and prospect enthusiasts, but it appears as though that has become much less likely considering his setbacks. Minnesota might have to wait until 2015, or even 2016, to see Buxton at Target Field.
He was scheduled to graduate to Double-A when deemed ready, which could still happen this year, but the downtime is likely to cause his development to protract.
With Sano and Buxton coming soon, the Twins could be in an excellent position to compete in the near future. Sano’s power and Buxton’s all-around potential are promising enough for the team to dream big, but of course, they’ll have to stay healthy to actualize into what many talent evaluators believe they can be.
