The Daily Puig: Yasiel Puig’s mom throws out first pitch

Mom first pitches and Puig-on-Puig hugs.

It was a big night for Yasiel Puig in Los Angeles on Tuesday. He had his official bobblehead released to the public, teammate Adrian Gonzalez tried to turn Puig into a living bobblehead, and the darling woman who brought us Yasiel Puig -- his mother Maritza Valdes Gonzalez -- threw out the ceremonial first pitch:

Dodgers' announcer Vin Scully said she was a surprise guest for the game, which came just a couple of days after Mother's Day. Way to show the rest of us kids up, Yasiel. It didn't stop there, though. Maritza was with her son as Puig himself said it was time to play ball:

I don’t think the two stopped hugging until Puig had to go out to right field and actually play the game.

As for Puig’s performance for the evening, he was his typical excellent self during a night meant to celebrate all things Puig. He went two-for-three with two hits and one each of a walk, double, run, and RBI. He’s now batting .326/.417/.563 with a 173 OPS+, third-best in the National League among qualifying players.
