Yu Darvish rarely gets out-pitched, and it's even rarer when the superior performance is by someone younger than him. But 23-year-old Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison managed to do precisely that, pitching a six-strikeout complete game shutout against Darvish and the struggling Texas Rangers in Arlington on Friday night.

Just 3-7 in their last 10 games, the Rangers have rapidly fallen away from the surging Athletics, and while they were able to get three hits against Hutchison, they were unable to do nearly anything else against the 15th-round pick. It was the first complete game of his short career, and only the second in which he's even managed to go eight innings. What makes those statements so fascinating is that he's also only started 19 games so far in his young career.
Darvish pitched well enough to win in most circumstances -- striking out 11 in eight innings -- but the two runs he gave up on a Melky Cabrera double in the eighth inning were simply too much for his team's offense to overcome.
Bell signs with O’s
After a disastrous few years as a member of the Marlins, Diamondbacks and Rays, former three-time All-Star closer Heath Bell has signed with the Baltimore Orioles, according to reports from Fox's Ken Rosenthal.
The deal -- according to Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo -- includes two opt-outs and will pay Bell the major league minimum. This is on top of the nine million dollars he is owed as part of his old contract from the Marlins, which the Rays had taken on part of, $5.5 million to be exact, before cutting him. He was immediately designated to report to Triple-A Norfolk.
