The Red Sox' struggles continue, as they dropped their ninth straight game on Friday. This time it was to their division rivals, the Tampa Bay Rays, in a grueling fifteen-inning game that ended 6-5.
Red Sox 9th straight loss takes 15 innings, White Sox lose on Jacoby Ellsbury HR
A throwing error late in extra innings dooms Boston and a Jacoby Ellsbury home run in the 10th does the same for Chicago in a rough day for Sox of all colors.

After sprinting out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, the defending World Series champions were unable to stop the Rays from coming back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. The game remained tied for the next 10 innings, until a throwing error by Andrew Miller in the 15th cost the Sox the contest. The throw allowed Cole Figueroa -- who was pinch running for James Loney, after he reached base on a bunt -- to score and gave the visiting team its longest losing streak since late-August/early-September of 2001.
Time to panic?
It's been a troubling season in general for the now-last-place Red Sox, but the last few weeks in particular have been difficult. Third baseman Will Middlebrooks is on the DL, and the team recently re-signed last year's starting shortstop, Stephen Drew, to a $10 million deal in an attempt to bolster its anemic offense.
At this point, the Sox better hope Stephen Drew is made of iron.
