The Daily Puig: Juan Lagares, Andrew McCutchen rob each other of hits

Two styles, two excellent grabs.

Jim McIsaac

Living the Puigian dream isn’t all about bat flips and dingers, you know. You can’t live in the spirit of one Yasiel Puig if you can’t handle yourself with a glove. Mets’ outfielder Juan Lagares and the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen took this lesson to heart on Tuesday night, when they took turns robbing each other of extra-base hits.

Lagares kicked things off by making his way to the warning track then leaping at the wall to snag this McCutchen fly ball:

Lagares-catch

It looks easy, but that’s the point: Lagares makes it look that way. He tracks the ball so well while it’s hanging in the air that he can go after it without going full-speed and waiting around for it to drop, all leading to a perfectly timed leap. McCutchen’s grab doesn’t look anywhere near as simple or laid-back, but it’s damn pretty just the same:

Mccutchen

Did you see how far he ran? Did you see how fast he ran? And still, he juuuuust gets to it even with that hustle:

Mccutchen-2

Excuse me, I’m just going to sit here and watch McCutchen play defense for the rest of the day.
