With elbow stiffness, Henderson Alvarez departed in the sixth inning of the Marlins' game against the Nationals on Wednesday. He scattered five hits over five innings, striking out two and walking none. If it's possible to post a sub-3.00 ERA while going unnoticed, Alvarez was doing it, and it's our hope that he can continue doing it despite today's scare.
Henderson Alvarez departs with elbow stiffness, Tommy La Stella debuts with 2 hits
Alvarez is forced to leave as a precaution, and La Stella knocks two hits in his debut.

The Marlins are referring to the removal as a precautionary measure, but given Alvarez’s injury history, having concern is no overreaction. He has experienced elbow soreness before, in 2012, and missed close to half of last season with shoulder inflammation.
La Stella can’t get Atlanta’s groove back (I’m so sorry)
The Atlanta Braves (finally) turned to prospect Tommy La Stella to fill their ever-growing void at the keystone, promoting the second baseman for Wednesday night’s tilt in Boston.

— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) May 28, 2014 He promptly notched two singles in four at-bats out of the eighth spot in the lineup, living up to his reputation as a player who can hit for average, but is unlikely to go for much power. At 25 years old, La Stella is on the older side for a prospect, but it's hard not to consider him a success, especially as an eighth-round pick. He has impressive on-base skills to pair with his ability to hit for average, so he should be useful even if the power never comes. La Stella should be the team's regular starting second baseman in place of Dan Uggla and Ramiro Pena as long as he has no major issues adjusting to the majors.
