Kershaw has needed 93 pitches so far to retire 21 of the 22 batters he has faced, with a season-high 12 strikeouts and no walks. The Dodgers lead Colorado, 8-0.
The only Rockies batter to reach base against Kershaw was Corey Dickerson, who reached on a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez to open the seventh inning.
The left-hander, who has captured two of the last three National League Cy Young Awards, is vying for his first career no-hitter and the second no-hitter in baseball this season. Kershaw's teammate, Josh Beckett, threw a no-hitter on May 25 against the Phillies in Philadelphia.
So far this season, Kershaw has 83 strikeouts and just eight walks in 62⅓ innings, by far the best strikeout-to-walk ratio of his career. A win on Wednesday would make him 4-0 in four June starts, with 37 strikeouts and only one walk during the month.
This outing ties the longest Kershaw has taken a no-hitter in his career. On May 17, 2009, he didn't allow a hit to the Marlins through seven innings, but Cody Ross broke up the fun with a leadoff double in the eighth inning.
