Tim Lincecum has no-hitter through 7 innings vs. Padres

The only blemish on the right-hander’s record so far is a second-inning walk to Chase Headley.

Jason O. Watson

Tim Lincecum has a no-hitter through seven innings in San Francisco, threatening to no-hit the San Diego Padres for the second time in less than a year. This time, however, the pitch count should not be a concern for Lincecum, who is sitting at 87 pitches.

Since walking Chase Headley on six pitches in the second, Lincecum has retired the next 17 hitters, striking out five total in the game.

In Lincecum’s previous no-hitter, in San Diego on July 13, he needed 148 pitches to complete the feat, walking four and striking out 13.

The Giants currently lead the Padres 2-0, with Lincecum scoring one of the runs after singling up the middle in the bottom of the third. A pair of Carlos Quentin miscues in left field helped the Giants take an early lead against Padres’ right-hander Ian Kennedy. Lincecum singled again to lead off the eighth inning.

Lincecum has had an up-and-down season this year, coming into the game with a 4.90 ERA in 82⅔ innings.
