Home Run Derby 2014: Time, TV schedule and more

There will be a new format for the Home Run Derby this year, but most importantly, there will be dingers!

Update: Yoenis Cespedes wins Home Run Derby (again)

Some of the biggest sluggers in Major League Baseball will put their skills on display Monday night when they partake in the Home Run Derby. While the Futures Game and a few other events have already taken place, the Home Run Derby is the unofficial start of All-Star Week.

The format will be slightly different this year with the introduction of a bracket concept. A total of 10 players will participate, five from the American League and five from the National League. Each player will participate in the first round and attempt to hit as many home runs as they can before making seven -- not 10 -- outs. The top home run hitter from each league will automatically advance to the semifinal. The second and third place finishers from each league will advance to the second round. They will get another seven outs in a head-to-head matchup. The winner will advance to face the top seed in the semifinal. The winner from the American League side will then advance to face the winner from the National League side in the finals.

The 2014 field features some of the biggest power bats in baseball. Yoenis Cespedes will attempt to defend his Home Run Derby title and will be joined by Jose Bautista, Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson, Brian Dozier, Adam Jones, Todd Frazier, Justin Morneau, Yasiel Puig and Giancarlo Stanton.

ESPN will televise the event with live coverage beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The broadcast will also be available online for those with subscription access to WatchESPN. Viewers with MLB.TV subscritpions can also watch the event live.
