The Houston Astros failed to sign 2014 No. 1 overall draft pick Brady Aiken before Friday's deadline, and the Major League Baseball Players Association isn't happy about it.

Houston, as compensation for not signing Aiken, will receive the No. 2 pick in the 2015 draft.

Houston also failed to sign fifth-round pick Jacob Nix and 21st-round pick Mac Marshall as a result of baseball’s complicated draft slot bonus system, agreed to through collective bargaining by both Major League Baseball and the MLBPA.
Tony Clark, executive director of the MLBPA, issued a brief statement regarding the ordeal.

“Today, two young men should be one step closer to realizing their dreams of becoming major league ballplayers. Because of the actions of the Houston Astros, they are not,” Clark said. “The MLBPA, the players and their advisers are exploring all legal options.”
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow addressed the news on Friday.
“Very disappointed. I think this is a player we wanted; obviously we took him 1-1,” Luhnow told reporters, per Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle. “You know we would have liked to have signed him and (Jacob) Nix and (Mac) Marshall, all three of ‘em. But you can’t do that without the other side wanting to be a part of it, so we move on.”
