Things could be going from bad to worse for the Rockies. MVP candidate, NL batting leader and starting shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left their game against the Pirates in the fourth inning Saturday after coming up lame running out a ground ball. He was replaced by Josh Rutledge.
Troy Tulowitzki leaves Rockies game with left thigh cramp
The Rockies may be without their best player after he left Saturday’s game following a leg injury in the fourth inning.

The official word from the team’s PR department is that “Troy Tulowitzki left tonight’s game with a cramp in the tensor fascia latae of his left thigh.” Although he’s missed at least 19 games every season since 2010, and 210 contests overall in the four seasons from 2010-13, most of his injuries have been things like broken ribs, hand lacerations and a hit-by-pitch-induced wrist fracture.
However, he’s had a worrisome history with lower leg injuries as well, with a left quadriceps tendon tear in 2008 being the most notable issue. While this is on the opposite side of his leg -- the quadriceps are in front of the leg, while the tensor fascia latae is toward the back -- it remains unclear how long he’ll be out, or if he’ll miss any time at all.
The Rockies will likely take whatever precautions they can with their best and most valuable player.
