LOS ANGELES -- Legendary broadcaster Vin Scully will return to call Dodgers games in 2015, the team announced on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Scully will be in his 66th year with the club next season, a record for any announcer in professional sports.

Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully will return to broadcast for a 66th season in 2015, the team announced on Tuesday night.

The announcement was made in the middle of the second inning on the left field video board at Dodger Stadium, with Hyun-jin Ryu delivering the news in Korean, Yasiel Puig in Spanish, and Justin Turner making the announcement in English, followed by several Dodgers celebrating on the video.

“It is very difficult to say goodbye,” said Scully in a statement. “God willing I will be back next year. Over the years I have been blessed to have so many friends including those that sit in the stands and listen as well as those at home, who listen and watch. It is just too hard to say goodbye to all these friends. Naturally there will come a time, when I will have to say goodbye, but I’ve soul-searched and this is not the time.”
After the announcement was made, the Dodger Stadium crowd gave Scully a prolonged standing ovation, which he acknowledged from the press box that bears his name.
“Boy it’s tough to get over that,” Scully said as he resumed the broadcast, opening the bottom of the second inning.
Scully began calling Dodgers games in 1950, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick award in 1982. He has called 25 World Series, 12 All-Star Games, three perfect games and 20 no-hitters.
“I’m obviously not alone in saying that I’m overjoyed Vin will be coming back to the booth in 2015,” said Dodgers CEO and president Stan Kasten. “Our fans deserve the very best and Vin’s voice, knowledge, experience and passion for broadcasting Dodger baseball are second to none.”
Scully will continue to call all nine innings of the games he works on television, with the first three innings simulcast on radio. His current schedule calls for Scully to work only home games and road games in California and Arizona, which is likely to continue into 2015.
