MLB roundup: Kluber, Felix make history, Uggla future in doubt

Cleveland pitching shines throughout the whole organization

It takes a hell of a feat for a Triple-A starter to outshine what Corey Kluber accomplished on the mound Wednesday night, but if it's possible, his org-mate Tyler Cloyd might have done it. Kluber not only outshined Felix Hernandez (who made history), but made some history of his own, becoming the only pitcher in the last 100 years to have consecutive starting of nine innings pitched and 28 batters faced. Kluber also managed to pull off a "Maddux" (complete game with fewer than 100 pitches), going the full nine innings, striking out eight and throwing only 85 pitches. For his part, Felix set the major league record with his 14th straight start of at least seven innings pitched and two or fewer runs allowed, though it wasn't enough to save the M's from a 2-0 loss.

Still, Tyler Cloyd stole the show, taking a perfect game into the ninth inning for Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, ending up with merely a no-hitter with a hit batsman as the only mark against him. Cloyd struck out six and walked none in the effort, as the Clippers would go on to win 13-0 behind a 12-hit onslaught. Cloyd used 88 pitches in the outing.

We shouldn't ignore the efforts of the Indians Double-A affiliate in Akron either, as the Rubberducks saw three pitchers combine for a shutout of the Bowie Baysox, the Orioles affiliate. Duke von Schamann (real person, I promise) threw seven innings and got the win in the 4-0 affair, with clean innings from Giovanni Soto (not Geovany Soto) and Sean Armstrong.

Uggla future in doubt

There are conflicting reports out of San Francisco regarding his fate, but none of it looks good for Lord Biceps. After an initial report from MLB.com's Chris Haft that Uggla (and Tyler Colvin) were released by the Giants, it appears to be a bit murkier than that.

and then...

Fitting. Uggla with the Giants so far is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts and three errors.
