Eric Hosmer likely out 3-4 weeks with broken hand

After trying to come back too soon from a bruised right hand, the Royals’ first baseman will now miss a month in the heart of the playoff race.

Following an abysmal return from a bruised hand, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will be sidelined for a month after re-aggravating the injury and causing a stress fracture during Thursday's game against the Twins. He now looks to miss four-to-six weeks after X-rays came back with the bad news, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.

In a 1-for-10 slump since returning on Tuesday, Hosmer has struggled mightily to overcome the injury he picked up after getting hit by a pitch from Jon Lester. His poor play hasn’t had an adverse effect on the Royals, who have won six of their last seven outings despite having Hosmer go just 3-of-19 over four contests during that time frame.

However, with just 3.5 games separating them from the second Wild Card and Billy Butler lacking strong defensive skills, the Royals could have used Hosmer’s glove just as much as his bat. Now, they’ll have to hope they can manage without either.
