Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew McCutchen highlight 2014 NL All-Star roster

The rosters for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game were revealed on Sunday afternoon, and the National League squad is highlighted by young talent, many of whom are making their first start in baseball's midsummer classic.

Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies was the leading vote getter in the National League, and will make his fourth All-Star appearance, including his third start at shortstop. Reigning NL MVP outfielder Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates makes his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance and his first start.

The 2014 MLB All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 15 at Target Field in Minnesota. The game will be televised by FOX. The NL squad is managed by Mike Matheny of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joining Tulowitzki in the NL starting infield are 2013 NL MVP runner-up Paul Goldschmidt of the Arizona Diamondbacks at first base, making his second All-Star appearance and first start; Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies at second base, his sixth All-Star appearance and fifth start; and Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers at third base, his third appearance and first since 2008.

Reserve infielders include Braves' first baseman Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers' Dee Gordon, Cubs' shortstop Starlin Castro, Mets' second baseman Daniel Murphy, Cardinals' third baseman Matt Carpenter, and Reds' third baseman Todd Frazier.

In a close vote at catcher, Yadier Molina of the Cardinals beat out Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers, who was named a reserve. It's the first All-Star appearance for Lucroy, and the sixth consecutive for Molina. Reds' catcher Devin Mesoraco also made the club.

Joining McCutchen in the NL starting outfield are Carlos Gomez of the Brewers and Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers. It is the second All-Star Game for Gomez and the first for Puig. All three outfielders are starting for the first time in their careers.

Reserve outfielders include the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton, who may start the game as a designated hitter; and Ryan Braun, making his sixth All-Star appearance. Pirates' utility man Josh Harrison made the team along with Giants' outfielder Hunter Pence.

NL starting pitchers named to the squad are Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals, NL leader in ERA (1.89) and co-leader in wins (11); Dodgers teammates Clayton Kershaw, winner of two of the last three NL Cy Young Awards and author of a no-hitter on June 18; Zack Greinke, tied with Wainwright with 11 wins; Johnny Cueto of the Reds; Madison Bumgarner of the Giants; Julio Teheran of the Braves; the Nationals' Jordan Zimmermann; San Diego righty Tyson Ross and the recently traded Jeff Samardzija -- who is ineligible to appear in the game now that he plays in the American League. However, the A's new ace will receive full All-Star honors since he was voted in by the players.

Relief pitchers include Craig Kimbrel of the Braves, making his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance, Cardinals' set up man Pat Neshek, Cincinnati's Aroldis Chapman, Pittsburgh's Tony Watson, and Brewers' closer Francisco Rodriguez.
