Angels slugger Albert Pujols hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning against Anthony Bass of the Astros on Saturday night in Anaheim, the 511th career home run for Pujols moving him into a tie for 23rd all-time with Mel Ott.

The home run to left center field by Pujols scored Kole Calhoun and gave the Angels the lead, part of an eight-run rally in an 11-5 win over Houston.

It was the 19th home run of the season for Pujols, two more than he hit in his injury-plagued 2013 campaign. For good measure, Pujols also doubled in the eighth inning, his 18th of the season and 542nd of his career, moving him into a tie for 29th place with Harry Heilmann.

Pujols on the season is hitting .265/.316/.485 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI in 84 games. After struggling in June, hitting just .271/.308/.365 with two home runs during the month, Pujols already has three home runs in six games in July, including one in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against Houston.

Against the Astros in his career Pujols has hit 45 home runs in 202 regular season games, more than everybody except Hank Aaron, who hit 46 home runs in 208 games in his career.

Pujols began the season with 492 career home runs. He hit his 500th home run on April 22, and along the way has passed Fred McGriff, Lou Gehrig, Eddie Murray and Gary Sheffield on the all-time home run list. Up next for Pujols is Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews, tied for 21st all-time with 512 career home runs.
