The Red Sox placed outfielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list Friday as part of a flurry of roster moves, the team announced.
Shane Victorino placed on DL, Giants release Dan Uggla
Here’s a roundup of post-deadline roster moves. You’re welcome!

Victorino injured his lower back in Boston's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday. The 33-year-old veteran's latest DL stint is his third of 2014. He has struggled to a career low .685 OPS/91 OPS+ in 133 plate appearances while exclusively playing right field.
After trading Jon Lester, Jonny Gomes, John Lackey, Andrew Miller and Stephen Drew prior to the trade deadline on Thursday, the Red Sox added a host players, including new addition Yoenis Cespedes and highly touted prospects Mookie Betts and Anthony Renaudo, on Friday.
The team also activated Will Middlebrooks from the DL and designated Mike Carp for assignment prior to their series opener against the Yankees at Fenway Park.
Giants release Uggla
The Giants officially designated Dan Uggla for assignment on Friday, according to a team announcement.
The move comes two days after it was first reported that the team would part ways with the struggling veteran second baseman. The Giants also designated Tyler Colvin for assignment, making room for Double-A call-ups Matt Duffy and Jarrett Parker.
Uggla went 0-for-11 with six strikeouts during his week-long stint in San Francisco. This was his only positive contribution on offense to the NL West’s second-place team:
Marlins' Alvarez lands on DL
Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday with shoulder inflammation, per MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.
Alvarez began the 2013 season in the DL with the same injury and didn’t make his first start until July 4. A similar situation would be bad news for the Marlins, who entered Friday just 4½ games out of a Wild Card spot.
The 24-year-old right-hander earned his first All-Star selection this season and owns a 2.48 ERA in 22 starts. Alvarez has struck out just 5.4 batters per nine innings, but has a low walk rate and is one of the league’s best at inducing ground balls.
Cardinals option Martinez
The Cardinals optioned Carlos Martinez to Triple-A Memphis, according to a team announcement, a day after acquiring Lackey from the Red Sox.
Martinez, 22, owns a 4.74 ERA with 64 strikeouts and 31 walks in 68⅓ innings. He was slightly better in seven starts, posting a 4.45 ERA, than he was in 31 relief appearances. Martinez was in the rotation from June 16 through July 20. Lackey and the also recently acquired Justin Masterson will step in for Martinez and Joe Kelly, who was dealt to Boston.
Martinez hasn’t been able to put it all together in parts of two big league seasons, but the minors have been a different story. The Dominican lefty owns a 2.69 ERA in 327⅔ minor league innings since 2010.
