Corey Kluber strikes out 10, continues 2nd-half surge

The dominant summer of the Indians’ Corey Kluber continues. He struck out 10 Yankees in the Bronx while scattering four hits in six shutout innings on Saturday.

The New York Yankees were just the latest team to get caught up in the buzzsaw that is Cleveland's Corey Kluber, who struck out 10 Bombers in just six innings of work.

Kluber has been historically good this season, at least for the Indians. With this double-digit strikeout performance, the 28-year-old became the first Indians pitcher since Dennis Eckersley in 1976 to have seven such games in one season, according to MLB's Jordan Bastian. While he's been dominant most of the year -- his 147 ERA+ and 177 strikeouts are both in the top five in the American League -- as the weather has gotten warmer, he's been on fire.

Since June 4th, when he gave up four runs to the Red Sox, he's done that just once more in 13 starts and allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of the 11 other games. This has reached a fever pitch in his last four starts, which included two consecutive complete games, and have seen him give up just one earned run total.

Spoken like a true baseball player, Kluber credited his recent success to his process, telling the AP when asked about what has allowed his recent success, “Just stick with my same approach. Maybe just executing a little better.”

If he executes any better, they may have to start invoking the mercy rule for the rest of the American League.

Not all of them have been against the Cardinals

Caleb Joseph has been tearing the cover off the ball for the past week or so, but it's important to remember the fickle nature of baseball. Which is to say that he was .199/268/.309 with three home runs in 48 games before this streak.

Look at that face

It's an advertisement for an upcoming Rockies game, but look at that face.

O’Neill honored by Yankees

Paul O’Neill being added to Monument Park was a big day for Yankees fans and, presumably, people who like seeing Gatorade jugs get what’s coming to them.
