Bud Selig expects MLB regular season games in Europe soon

Some MLB teams will likely be headed to Amsterdam for meaningful games as early as 2015.

Outgoing Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig hopes to announce plans for regular season games in Europe before he leaves office, according to multiple reports.

The league has its eye on London and Amsterdam as potential hosts, Eric Fisher of SportsBusiness Journal tweeted. Of the two sites, Selig believes Amsterdam is “more prepared” to host games as soon as 2015, per Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi.

MLB opened its 2013 regular season in Australia with a two-game series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. The league has also had teams play meaningful games in Mexico and Japan and has been pushing the idea of taking its show to Europe for several years. MLB sent representatives to the Netherlands in 2011 and the league was also present when plans for a baseball facility that will be able to accommodate up to 30,000 fans were unveiled in early 2013.

Though Amsterdam appears first in line, Selig would also like to see games in London in the near future, per Morosi.
