Seattle's playoff hopes may have taken a cataclysmic blow long before they found themselves losing 4-2 to the Tigers on Saturday, as all-world ace Felix Hernandez left the game an inning after taking an Ian Kinsler hit off his hip in the fourth.
David Price outduels Felix Hernandez, Tigers pass Mariners in Wild Card race
Felix Hernandez left Saturday’s game early after taking a hit off his hip against the Tigers, with Detroit exacerbating the situation by winning a crucial game for the final Wild Card spot.

The game also marked the end of his historic 16 straight quality starts, although he had only given up two runs in his five innings of work. Felix's counterpart on the Tigers, the recently acquired David Price, pitched exceptionally. Price surrendered just one run on three hits in eight innings to go along with seven strikeouts.
Further compounding the insult and injury, Detroit has moved into the second Wild Card spot with this victory, pushing out the M's for the AL's final playoff berth. After leading the Central for much of the season, Detroit has struggled mightily and has been passed by the upstart Royals.
But they may be able to push themselves back to the top of the division with a strong showing against the Mariners, who might be occupied for the next few days as they wait for word on their MVP.
