Angels starter Matt Shoemaker tossed 6⅔ innings of no-hit ball against the Red Sox on Thursday at Fenway Park before Will Middlebrooks doubled to break up the bid for history. The Halos beat the Red Sox 2-0 to complete their first four-game sweep at Fenway Park since 1962.
Angels’ Matt Shoemaker loses no-hitter in 7th vs. Red Sox
Boston was in danger of being no-hit for the first time in more than 21 years.

Shoemaker ended up with nine strikeouts in 7⅔ scoreless innings with one hit and one walk allowed. He began the game by plunking Red Sox leadoff hitter Brock Holt but set down 20 consecutive batters until serving up the hit to Middlebrooks.
The rookie Shoemaker won his 12th game of the season, a bright spot in a much-maligned starting rotation for the team with the best record in baseball (76-50).
The Angels' last no-hitter came on May 2, 2012, when Jered Weaver accomplished the feat against the Twins in Anaheim. Former Red Sox ace Jon Lester tossed the last no-no at Fenway Park on May 19, 2008 against the Royals.
Boston has not been no-hit since April 22, 1993, when Chris Bosio did it for the Mariners in front of fewer than 14,000 spectators at the Kingdome. The Red Sox's official Twitter account went to great lengths after the sixth to try to prevent it from happening again:
Shoemaker has a no-hitter through 6. There, let's get that out there. Maybe #TwitterJinx...
— Boston Red Sox (@RedSox) August 22, 2014 The Angels supported Shoemaker with a run-scoring double off the bat of Josh Hamilton and a sacrifice fly from Kole Calhoun.
