Byron Buxton, Addison Russell highlight 2014 Arizona Fall League rosters

Prospect hounds will descend upon the desert this offseason to watch nine of the top 50 prospects in the game, plus many others, hone their craft in the AFL.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Top 10 prospects Byron Buxton and Addison Russell are among a bevy of notable young players who will participate in Arizona Fall League play this offseason.

Both Buxton and Russell will play in the AFL for the second consecutive season, and both players are also coming off of injury-plagued 2014 seasons. Buxton, a Twins farmhand who dealt with various injuries during AFL play last year en route to a .212/.288/.404 line in 12 games, has made only 137 plate appearances across two levels this year because of a wrist ailment and a concussion.

Russell saw much more success in the desert last fall, hitting .282/.361/.435 in 21 games, but the 20-year-old shortstop has been limited to 261 plate appearances this season due to a hamstring injury. Russell was traded to the Cubs in the midseason deal that sent Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the Athletics.

Corey Seager, Josh Bell, Raul Adalberto Mondesi, Jesse Winker, Archie Bradley, Tyler Glasnow and Mark Appel make up the rest of the MLB.com midseason Top 50 propsects who will head to Arizona after the season
