David Price strikes out 10 in Tigers debut

Price fanned double digits for the 10th time this season on Tuesday night, adding to his league-leading total of 199 strikeouts.

David Price struck out 10 in 8⅔ innings in his debut with the Tigers on Tuesday night in New York, but got a no-decision as Detroit beat the Yankees 4-3 in 12 innings in the Bronx.

Tuesday was the fifth game this season for Price with double-digit strikeouts and no walks. He leads the majors with 199 strikeouts on the season.

Price allowed solo home runs to Brian McCann and Martin Prado, the latter resulting in yet another terribly hilarious home run call by Yankees radio announcer John Sterling.

Hiroki Kuroda was keeping in step with Price, and was beating him for a while, but the Tigers got a home run by Austin Romine in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Alex Avila in the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3. Kuroda allowed three runs on six hits in his seven innings of work, with five strikeouts and no walks.

Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter left the game in the top of the ninth inning after getting hit by a 97-mph fastball from Dellin Betances. Detroit got relatively good news after the game.

Ryan to the rescue

Yankees second baseman Brendan Ryan nearly lost this soft liner by Tigers left fielder J.D. Martinez, but Ryan stayed with it and finished with a barehanded stab.

Select company

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw made his 200th career start on Tuesday against the Angels.

The others were Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez.

But you just got here

Newly acquired Red Sox first baseman and outfielder Allen Craig has only played in one game with Boston since getting acquired from the Cardinals on July 31, but he's already on the shelf.

OF/1B Allen Craig placed on 15-day DL with left foot sprain (retro to 8/2). OF Corey Brown selected to active ML roster from Pawtucket (AAA)
