David Murphy gets thrown out on play with 2 baseballs on field

David Murphy of the Indians was thrown out on a play with two baseballs on the field against the Reds on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

The Indians lost 9-2 to the Reds on Tuesday night, and in the process were involved in a most bizarre play. Yan Gomes hit an RBI double, but at the end of the play David Murphy was thrown out at third base to much confusion.

There was a second ball that came onto the field, an accident from the bullpen, which led to Murphy’s confusion.

“I didn’t know where it came from,” third base coach Mike Sarbaugh told Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. “Murph did what you teach guys to do. After you find the bag, you find the ball. It just happened to be the wrong ball. I hope that never happens again.”
