Cubs rookie infielder Javier Baez, playing in his first major league game, hit a home run off Boone Logan in the 12th inning on Tuesday night to lift Chicago to a 6-5 extra-inning win over the Rockies at Coors Field in Denver.
Javier Baez hits game-winning home run in major league debut
The new Cubs second baseman made a memorable first major league impression on Tuesday night in Colorado.

Baez was promoted by the Cubs on Tuesday from Triple-A Iowa, where the shortstop hit .260/.323/.510 with 23 home runs, 24 doubles and 16 stolen bases in 104 games. Playing second base in his major league debut, Baez was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts before breaking a 5-5 tie in the 12th inning against the left-hander Logan.
At 21, Baez is the youngest player in the majors and part of a growing wave of young talent in the Cubs system that is nearly all major league ready.
In midseason 2014 prospect rankings, Baez was ranked the fifth-best prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline and Baseball Prospectus, the seventh-best by Baseball America, and eighth-best by ESPN.
Baez is just the 12th Cub to hit a home run in his first major league game since 1914, and the first since current double play partner Starlin Castro did so in 2010.
