The Oakland Athletics were swept by the last-place Texas Rangers on Wednesday and now trail the Kansas City Royals by a half-game in the AL Wild Card standings.
MLB playoffs 2014: Athletics swept by Rangers, Mariners gain ground
The A’s fell to 2-9 in their last 11 home games while the Mariners continued their road dominance.

A's starter Sonny Gray allowed four runs in the first inning en route to a 7-2 loss, the team's 15th in their last 20 games. The Royals were idle and begin a crucial three-game set against the AL Central-leading Tigers on Friday. Meanwhile, behind ace Felix Hernandez, the Seattle Mariners took down the Los Angeles Angels, 3-1, behind a three-run home run in the ninth inning by Logan Morrison to pull to within a game of the A's.
Home hasn't been kind to Oakland as of late, but they'll remain there for a weekend series against Philadelphia Phillies before hosting the Angels next week. The A's are 2-9 in their last 11 games at O.co Coliseum but need to re-establish an advantage quickly; the Mariners, one of the league's best road teams, have a road series against the Houston Astros. Seattle is 5-1 at Minute Maid Park this season.
