Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco issued an apology on Tuesday to his teammates, one day after criticizing them for defensive mistakes that cost them a game against the Kansas City Royals.
Carlos Carrasco apologizes to Indians for ‘immature’ criticism
The Indians pitcher was frustrated after losing a pivotal game against the Royals due to defensive miscues.

“It was a terribly immature and foolish thing to say,” Carrasco said. “I know better and I apologize for saying it. I have made some terrible pitches in my career and position players could have questioned what I was doing. No one wants to be criticized when making their best effort. I will apologize to everyone and it won’t happen again.”
Carrasco made his comments Monday after the Indians took a 2-0 loss to their division rivals. Both teams are aiming for the postseason, which makes this current series a pivotal one. The Indians are currently 3 1/2 games back in the American League wild card standings with only five left in the regular season. The good news is that two of those are against the Royals.
Miscues on defense by newly acquired first baseman Chris Gimenez (primarily a catcher in his journeyman's career) and shortstop Jose Ramirez cost the Indians both runs. Carrasco pitched well enough to win -- two earned ryns in seven-plus innings -- but Danny Duffy shut down the Indians lineup. Those errors proved costly.
The porous defense has remained an issue for the Indians all season long. Cleveland leads the majors with 113 errors as a team, five more than the Pittsburgh Pirates. They're also tied with the Texas Rangers for the worst fielding percentage in baseball.
