MLB Wednesday viewing guide: Royals could eliminate Indians, move into tie with Tigers

Kansas City needs a win and a Detroit loss to accomplish both things.

Jason Miller

The AL Central race is poised to go down to the final weekend of the season, especially if the Royals can notch their fourth consecutive victory in a do-or-die game for their opponent, the Indians.

The Royals drubbed the Indians, 7-1, on Tuesday to remain within a game of the first-place Tigers and knock Cleveland to the brink of elimination. The win also moved Kansas City to three games ahead of the Mariners, who lost their fourth consecutive game on Tuesday and are fading fast.

The Indians' season comes down to Trevor Bauer, who is coming off of his first zero-walk start as a big leaguer. Bauer has a 4.38 ERA in four September starts. The Royals counter with Jason Vargas, owner of a 9.00 ERA in his last three outings.

Elsewhere, the Tigers are stuck facing White Sox ace Chris Sale, who leads the league in ERA (2.20) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.6).
