The Giants return to Comerica Park on Friday for the first time since the 2012 World Series, which the Giants swept in four games en route to their second championship in three years.
Friday MLB viewing guide: Tigers host Giants in Detroit
A rematch of the 2012 World Series is on tap for Friday, and it has Giant playoff race implications.

San Francisco enters its series against the Tigers in control of the top Wild Card spot in the National League despite losing two out of three to the NL's worst team, the Rockies, in Denver. Buster Posey certainly wasn't to blame; the two-time All-Star catcher went 8-for-13 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBI in the series.
The Tigers hold a slim lead over the Mariners for the second Wild Card spot in the American League after an extra-innings win over the Indians on Wednesday. They'll send Rick Porcello and his 3.10 ERA/131 ERA+ to the hill opposite Jake Peavy, who has a 2.66 ERA in seven starts since joining the Giants.

- The Mariners are firmly entrenched in the postseason race, but Lookout Landing’s Colin O’Keefe doesn’t believe the team or the fans should be content.
- The Giants are getting some unexpected homegrown help, writes McCovey Chronicles’ Grant Brisbee.
- The Cardinals are really good in one-run games. They won another over the Brewers on Thursday:
That was the #STLCards 48th one-run game of the season. They have now won 28 of them.
