The Rangers 2014 season has been one to forget, but this series against the Mariners will be one that they will likely remember for a while. Losing manager Ron Washington after his abrupt resignation may have long-term effects on the team and definitely couldn’t have helped them prepare for this weekend’s slate of games. For all his faults as a tactician, he led them to two AL pennants and within one out of a World Series title.
Sunday MLB viewing guide: Mariners finish off series in Texas
Derek Holland and James Paxton’s lefty pitching duel highlights the last day of the first full week of September.

And with the Mariners fighting for their playoff lives, the final game of the series will likely be one of the toughest tests of the Rangers' season. Thankfully, Texas has beloved impressionist/left-handed pitcher Derek Holland going against the dominant James Paxton, who has a 1.91 ERA in 47 innings pitched with a 1.06 WHIP. After missing much of the season with a knee injury, Holland pitched well in his first start, striking out six and giving up just one run in seven innings of work.
