Pete Rose ‘definitely’ part of 2015 All-Star Game, Reds owner says

Rose is appreciative of the invitation, but ultimately wants a resolution on his long-term status within baseball.

Baseball legend Pete Rose will be in attendance at the 2015 MLB All-Star Game, Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini told fans during a recent Q&A session, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Rose, despite his ongoing ban from baseball for betting on his team while managing the Reds in the late 1980s, has been involved in several events over the past 15 years. The first came at the 1999 World Series, where he was honored in the MLB All-Century team celebration. The Reds have invited Rose to participate in a few baseball ceremonies since then, a development that has given the all-time hits leader mixed feelings.

“Does that mean I get to go to the All-Star [Game] and do the festivities, then the next day I go back to jail? It’s wearing and tearing on me,” Rose told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap last year after soon-to-be former MLB commissioner Bud Selig hinted that the longtime Reds great could be involved with the 2015 All-Star festivities.

At the time, Selig noted it was the Reds’ decision to make.

“That will be up to the Cincinnati club, and they know what they can do and can’t do,” the commissioner told the Baseball Writers’ Association of America during the All-Star break in 2014. “They’ve done some things with Pete, but they’ve been very, very thoughtful and limited. But that’s a subject that I’m sure they’ll discuss in the next year.”

Rose was appreciative of the gestures of Selig and Castellini, but it appears being involved simply isn’t enough for the 73-year-old Cincinnati native.

“Make a decision,” Rose told Schaap. “Don’t keep putting me through this.”

The 2015 All-Star Game will take place at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on July 14.
