Ruben Tejada broke his leg after a takeout slide by Chase Utley in Game 2 of the Dodgers-Mets National League Division Series, on national television for everybody to see, and the baseball world reacted.
MLB players react to Chase Utley’s takeout slide of Ruben Tejada

Several baseball players held the opinion that Utley’s slide was a good, old-fashioned, hard-nosed baseball play, or at least vouched for Utley’s character.
Always called him one of my toughest teammates...Utley showing why I always called him a winner!!! #MLBPlayoffs
— Shane Victorino (@ShaneVictorino) October 11, 2015 Like it or not, Utley plays hard and I would want him on my team.

The agree that the slide was late, but not dirty! #NLDS2015 #DodgersMets

Ok... After a few more looks at it, Utley should have come in lower. I think the idea of coming in hard and breaking it up was right tho!

Others saw it differently.
that was a really weak attempt at a slide by utley
— Jose Reyes (@lamelaza_7) October 11, 2015 Utley never touched the bag, absolutely no way you can call him safe in that situation.
— Logan Verrett (@lverrett4) October 11, 2015 It bothered me to see Utley's slide and the way he went after Tejada. Being a 2nd base man he needed to think how to break the DP not hisleg
— Pedro Martinez (@45PedroMartinez) October 11, 2015 If you tell Utley to teach kids to slide on second base? Would he teach them the way he slided tonight?
— Pedro Martinez (@45PedroMartinez) October 11, 2015 Cuddyer: " That's not a slide, that's a tackle."
— Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) October 11, 2015
I'm very angry about that brutal dirty slide and confused as to how someone can be ruled safe without touching a base????
— Anthony Recker (@Anthony_Recker) October 11, 2015
If that was a superstar shortstop we would have a Tulo Rule being enforced tomorrow
— Justin Upton (@JUST_JUP) October 11, 2015
