Rangers vs. Blue Jays 2015: Time, TV schedule and starting pitchers for ALDS Game 5

The Rangers will need to win a third game in Toronto if they are going to stave off elimination.

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers managed to win the first two games of their American League Division Series on the road, and if they are going to avoid elimination they will need to pick up one more road victory. The Rangers were forced to travel back to Toronto to face the Blue Jays in Game 5 after dropping Games 3 and 4 at home. The series-deciding game will be played on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET.

Both teams will give the ball to late-season additions. For Texas, Cole Hamels will start the game after being acquired in a trade-deadline deal. Marcus Stroman will start the deciding game for the Blue Jays, just his sixth start of the year after making his season debut in September.

Stroman taking the mound in a deciding playoff game is quite a turn of events from where his season started. He tore the ACL in his left knee during fielding drills in spring training and the 24-year-old was initially expected to miss the entire season. Instead, after a long rehabilitation process, he returned and made an immediate impact. He posted a 1.67 ERA in four starts during the regular season. He wasn’t quite as sharp in Game 2 of the series against Texas, but was still solid over seven innings. Stroman will get the nod over David Price, who pitched out of relief in Game 4 and is likely unavailable in Game 5.

The Rangers acquired Hamels in July and he helped Texas make a strong second-half surge that pushed the Rangers into the playoffs. Hamels opposed Stroman in Game 2 and allowed two earned runs over seven innings. Neither pitcher factored in the decision as the game went 14 innings.

Despite losing the first two games of the series in Toronto, the Blue Jays should receive a boost from playing at home. They were considerably better at home offensively, posting an .836 OPS as a team at home, compared to .760 on the road.

First pitch from Toronto is scheduled 4:07 p.m. with Fox Sports 1 providing the coverage. There will also be online coverage for users with access to Fox Sports Go or a subscription to a MLB.TV postseason subscription. The winner of Game 5 will face either the Kansas City Royals or the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.
