The teams with the best two records in the American League will meet for a right to go to the World Series, with both the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals matching up in the American League Championship Series beginning on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Both teams advanced with wins in Game 5 of their respective American League Division Series on Wednesday, with Toronto beating the Texas Rangers 6-3 behind an emotional four-run rally in the seventh inning, then the Royals taking care of business at home, beating the Houston Astros 7-2 in their division series finale.

Kansas City is vying for a return trip to the World Series after capturing the American League pennant in 2014. They fell behind two games to one in their ALDS and trailed 6-2 in the eighth inning of Game 4 to the Astros, but persevered for a repeat trip to the ALCS. With a 95-67 regular season record, the AL Central champion Royals earned home field advantage over the AL East champion Blue Jays (93-69).

The two teams met in two series during the regular season, with the Blue Jays winning four of the seven games. The Royals won two of three games at home in Kansas City from July 10-12 just before the All-Star break, then the Blue Jays won three out of four at Rogers Centre in Toronto from July 30 to Aug. 2.

Fox or Fox Sports 1 will provide coverage of the American League Championship Series, beginning on Friday night on Fox. The game times through Monday have already been set by MLB, with a day game on Saturday for Game 2.
