Matt Harvey will start against Jon Lester in the series opener.
The Mets are in the NLCS for the first time since 2006, while the Cubs are back for the first time since 2003.
New York boasts one of the best young pitching staffs in baseball, and will open with Matt Harvey in Game 1. The right-hander was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA in 29 starts during the regular season, then struck out seven in a win over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS. In his first year back from Tommy John surgery, Harvey has pitched 194... innings in the regular season and playoffs combined so far, after a brief controversy in September over a reported limit of roughly 180 innings on the season.
“Obviously what he went through in the last month has been difficult for him because deep inside, this guy is a tremendous competitor, and he loves to be -- he loves to be in the big game,” Mets manager Terry Collins said on Friday. “ I think he’s ready for it. I know physically his arm is fine, and hopefully, again, a little bit more consistent routine, I think he’ll pitch well.”
That great young pitching staff for New York will face a potent young lineup for the Cubs, who got two home runs each from Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler in their four-game NLDS win over the Cardinals, with both players hitting at least .500.
Chicago hit 10 home runs in the four-game NLDS, and hit seven home runs in seven games during the regular season against the Mets, all Cubs wins.
Jon Lester starts Game 1 for the Cubs. The left-hander struck out nine and pitched into the eighth inning in his one start against the Cardinals, but got stuck with the loss. In 15 career postseason games, including 13 starts, Lester is 6-5 with a 2.66 ERA.
TBS will televise Game 1 with first pitch scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET. Ernie Johnson will call the game, alongside analysts Ron Darling and Cal Ripken Jr., along with reporters Sam Ryan and Matt Winer.
Online streaming of the game will be available on TBS.com or the TBS app, with authenticated users needing to login using their television provider information. In addition, Postseason.tv will offer up to 10 live alternative camera angles during the broadcast.
