The Kansas City Royals have a chance to make franchise history on Wednesday by clinching back-to-back trips to the World Series. The Royals lead their American League Championship Series against Toronto 3-1. The Blue Jays will host Game 5 as they try to avoid elimination and send the series back to Kansas City.

The Royals took a commanding lead in the series on Tuesday and used an offensive outburst to do it. Kansas City scored multiple runs in four innings on the way to a 14-2 victory. That was on the heels of scoring eight runs in a loss in Game 3. The offense has been a driving force all series, with Kansas City scoring at least five runs in every game. Offensive firepower was supposed to be Toronto’s strength but outside of 11 runs in Game 3, that hasn’t been the case.

Edinson Volquez will be back on the mound for the Royals. He’s coming off a brilliant performance in Game 1 of the series when he allowed just two hits and no runs over six innings. It was by far the best postseason start of Volquez’s career and a similar performance in Game 5 could send Kansas City to the World Series.

Marco Estrada will start for Toronto, once again matching up against Volquez. Estrada took the loss in the first game of the series when he allowed three runs. Estrada could use a boost from the Blue Jays’ offense, which has struggled in the postseason. Toronto had the best offense in baseball during the regular season, but the numbers have dropped across the board in the playoffs. After posting a .797 OPS as a team during the regular season, the Blue Jays have combined for a .715 OPS in the playoffs.

A win would clinch a fourth World Series appearance for the Royals. A Toronto victory would send the series back to Kansas City for Game 6 on Friday. FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage with first pitch set for 4:07 p.m. ET There will be online coverage through FOX Sports GO and Postseason.tv for users with the required subscriptions.
