The 111th edition of baseball's World Series gets underway on Tuesday night in Kansas City, with the New York Mets visiting the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of the Fall Classic at Kauffman Stadium.

No matter what happens in this best-of-seven series, a long drought will be broken. The Mets haven’t won a championship since 1986, while the Royals, back in the World Series for a second straight season, won the only title in their franchise history in 1985.
The Mets turn to Matt Harvey to start Game 1 on Tuesday night, one of several young fireballers on New York's pitching staff. Harvey was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA in 29 regular season starts with 188 strikeouts in 189⅓ innings in his first year back after 2013 Tommy John surgery. He has also won both postseason starts to date, putting up a 2.84 ERA with 16 strikeouts against only one walk in his 12⅔ innings.
Manager Terry Collins told reporters on Saturday that Harvey would be prepared to start twice in the series — likely also getting the call in Game 5 — then be ready if needed out of the bullpen in a potential Game 7.

The Royals will turn to Edinson Volquez in Game 1. He is 1-2 this postseason with a 4.32 ERA in three starts, with nearly as many walks (12) as strikeouts (15) in 16⅔ innings, but both losses came on the road. Volquez pitched six scoreless innings in his one home playoff start, beating the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS at Kauffman Stadium, where he was 8-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 starts this season.
The Royals were 51-30 at home during the regular season, and are 5-1 at ‘The K’ so far in the postseason. New York was 41-40 on the road in 2015, and is 4-1 away from home in October.
The World Series will be televised by FOX with a pregame show at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by game coverage at 8 p.m. with Joe Buck on play-by-play, alongside analysts Tom Verducci and Harold Reynolds, and reporters Erin Andrews and Ken Rosenthal.
The game will be available online via the FOX Sports Go app, with authentication required via a television provider.
