Mets vs. Royals, World Series 2015: Time, TV schedule and team news for Game 2

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The 2015 World Series got off to an entertaining start with a grueling 14-inning bout between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets in Game 1. The Royals eventually prevailed 5-4 to take a 1-0 series lead. Now the teams will be back on the field some 17 hours after Game 1 ended to play Game 2.

It appeared the Mets were on their way to winning Game 1 on the road. New York took a 4-3 lead into the ninth inning and turned the game over to steadfast closer Jeurys Familia. Alex Gordon, however, sent the game into extra innings when he launched a solo home run to center field to tie the score. After trading zeroes for the first few extra frames, the Royals finally got something going in the bottom of the 14th and won on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Eric Hosmer.

Although Game 1 was a very memorable affair, there won’t be much time to reminiscence with attention immediately turning to Game 2 on Tuesday. With both bullpens taxed in Game 1, the starters, and their ability to last deep into the game, could play extra importance.

Johnny Cueto will take the mound for Kansas City, but is coming off a disastrous outing. Cueto lasted just two innings and allowed eight runs in the American League Championship Series against Toronto. He’s allowed 14 earned runs in 16 innings pitched this postseason. Before being traded to Kansas City, Cueto started one game against the Mets this season. He allowed two runs over six innings while pitching for the Cincinnati Reds.

While Cueto has struggled this postseason for the Royals, New York starter Jacob deGrom has been excellent. He’s tossed 20 innings over three postseason starts, allowing just four earned runs while striking out 27. He’s struck out at least seven batters in each start and has walked only five batters in the postseason. He has also pitched at least six innings in every start and another deep out is just what the Mets need. New York used five relievers in Game 1.

FOX will once again provide television coverage with pregame coverage scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET. First pitch is set for 8:07 p.m. from Kauffman Stadium. Viewers with proper subscriptions can also watch the game online via either FOX Sports Go or an MLB.TV postseason subscription.
