When the Kansas City Royals acquired Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds in July, it was a move to bolster their starting rotation for the stretch run and playoffs. Kansas City finds itself with a 1-0 lead in the World Series and will give the ball to Cueto in a situation they likely envisioned when they struck the deal. Now, the only question is whether he can perform at the level they expected.
World Series Game 2 live stream: How to watch Mets vs. Royals 2015 online

Cueto was excellent this season with the Reds, compiling a 2.62 era and 0.92 WHIP in 19 starts for Cincinnati. He wasn’t able to translate that success with the Royals during the regular season. His ERA jumped to 4.76 while his WHIP climbed to 1.45. While the Royals advanced to the World Series, it wasn’t with a ton of help from Cueto. He racked up a 7.88 ERA over three postseason starts, including getting shelled in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series when he allowed eight runs over two innings.
Any issues Cueto has had with the Royals could quickly become an afterthought if he’s able to turn in a good start in Game 2. The Royals desperately need it, too, after using six relievers during the 14-inning Game 1. Of the six, only one threw less than 14 pitches with three throwing at least 22 pitches. Availability could be an issue in Game 2 should Cueto not pitch deep into the ball game.
The Mets could also use a long outing to lessen the burden on the bullpen and the ball will be in good hands for just that. Jacob deGrom will start Game 2, fresh off three very solid postseason outings. He’s racked up 27 strikeouts while allowing just 15 hits in 20 postseason innings. The Mets have won all three of his starts, thanks in large part to the fact he’s allowed only four earned runs. The 27-year-old was terrific all season and the Mets will be counting on another strong start to avoid an 0-2 deficit.
FOX’s World Series coverage got off to a bit of a rough start when Game 1 had to be delayed after the network signal went out thanks to an electronics failure. The issue caused a brief delay and affected the replay system for a significant portion of Game 1. FOX’s Game 2 coverage will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and lead up to first pitch at 8:07 p.m. Viewers who are able to authenticate a cable subscription can stream the game live online thanks to FOX Sports GO. Users with a MLB.TV postseason subscription can also watch the game online.
