St. Louis was 55-26 at home in 2015.

The clubs had two of the best three records in baseball in 2015, with the Cardinals winning 100 games and the Cubs 97. The team in between them was another NL Central team, the Pirates, who were dispatched by Chicago in the NL Wild Card Game on Wednesday night.
In the first season of his seven-year, $155 million contract, Jon Lester put up a 3.34 ERA in 32 starts for the Cubs, with 207 strikeouts in 205 innings. He had a 2.59 ERA in five starts against the Cardinals, but was just 1-3 in those starts thanks to 12 total runs of support in five games.
John Lackey put up a career-high 2.77 ERA in 33 starts and 218 innings in his age-36 season with St. Louis. He was a teammate of Lester in parts of five seasons with the Red Sox.
“I have nothing but respect for him,” Lackey said on Thursday. “I mean, me and him are going to be friends long after this thing’s over, and he’s my boy. Wish him nothing but the best, but I’m going to try to get after him tomorrow and I expect nothing but the same from him. I know he’s going to be ready to go. It’s going to be a challenge.”
The Cardinals will follow with Jaime Garcia in Game 2 and Michael Wacha in Game 3.
Game coverage of Game 1 begins on TBS at 6:30 p.m. ET, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Brian Anderson will handle play-by-play, with Dennis Eckersley and Joe Simpson serving as analysts and reporter Matt Winer also on the broadcast.
Online streaming of the game will be available on TBS.com or the TBS app, with authenticated users needing to login using their television provider information. In addition, Postseason.tv will offer up to 10 live alternative camera angles during the broadcast.
