Rockies Jose Reyes reportedly arrested for alleged domestic abuse

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested on Oct. 31 for an alleged domestic abuse incident, according to television station KHNL. The alleged incident happened between Reyes and his wife Katherine in a hotel room in Hawaii.

According to the report, Katherine Reyes told police that Jose Reyes grabbed her off a bed, grabbed her throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door. KHNL reports Reyes was arrested for “abuse of a family or household member” and released on bail. The alleged incident occurred at the Four Seasons Resort Maui and Katherine Reyes reported thigh, necks and wrist injuries to police. Police were initially called by hotel security and Katherine Reyes was taken to a local hospital.

KHNL reporter Chelsea Davis obtained a mug shot of Jose Reyes following his arrest.

Following the arrest, Reyes could become the first player to be disciplined by MLB under its new domestic violence policy. MLB and MLBPA agreed on a new policy in August that allows MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to decide the severity of punishment on a case-by-case basis with no minimum or maximum established penalty.

The 32-year-old Reyes finished last season with the Rockies after being traded from Toronto. The Rockies released a statement and said they were “extremely disappointed” to learn of the allegations.
