Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs won the 2015 National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday, announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Jake Arrieta beats out Zack Greinke for National League Cy Young Award

Arrieta captured 17 of 30 first-place votes, while Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers received 10 first-place votes and finished second. Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers was third.
Arrieta is the fifth Cubs pitcher to win the Cy Young Award, and the first since Greg Maddux in 1992. He joins Fergie Jenkins (1971), Bruce Sutter (1979) and Rick Sutcliffe (1984) as Chicago winners of the award.
Arrieta was 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA in 33 starts for the Cubs, with 236 strikeouts and 48 walks in 229 innings. He led the majors in wins, was second in ERA and WHIP (0.865), and threw a no-hitter on Aug. 30 against the Dodgers.
Greinke was 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA in 32 starts for the Dodgers, with 200 strikeouts and 40 walks in 222⅔ innings. He had a scoreless streak of 45⅔ innings that was the longest in the majors since Orel Hershiser’s record streak in 1988, and he also led the majors in ERA and WHIP (0.844).
Greinke had the lowest ERA in baseball since Maddux in 1995, while Arrieta set a major league record with his 0.75 ERA after the All-Star break.
Clayton Kershaw, winner of the last two NL Cy Young Awards and three of the previous four, finished third in the voting. Even still, he enjoyed a season for the ages in his own right -- he posted a 2.13 ERA in 33 starts for the Dodgers, threw a major-league-high 232⅔ innings, led MLB in FIP (1.99) and finished with 301 strikeouts, the first pitcher to strike out 300 batters in a season since 2002.
