One year after coming oh so close, the Kansas City Royals won the World Series in 2015, culminating in their 7-2 victory over the New York Mets in Game 5 on Sunday night at Citi Field for the Royals' first title in 30 seasons.

Kansas City rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to tie the Mets, then tallied five runs in the 12th inning for their second extra-inning victory and third comeback win in the five-game series. Lorenzo Cain was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in the Game 5 clincher.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez started the winning rally with a single to open the 12th inning, and won World Series MVP honors after hitting .364 (8-for-22) in the five-game set.

The Royals' bullpen pitched six scoreless innings on Sunday, with six strikeouts and just three runners allowed to reach base. Kelvin Herrera pitched three scoreless innings in relief of starter Edinson Volquez, then Luke Hochevar got the win after pitching scoreless ball in the 10th and 11th innings.

Closer Wade Davis finished the win with a scoreless 12th inning, striking out three. The Royals will celebrate back home with a parade on Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City, but you don’t need to wait. You can pick up the latest Royals championship T-shirts, hats and other apparel now.
