The Baltimore Orioles game against the Chicago White Sox on Monday was postponed due to safety concerns. The decision was made after the team consulted with the Baltimore City Police Department.
Orioles game postponed due to safety concerns in Baltimore
The Orioles were scheduled to play the White Sox on Monday, but the game was instead postponed.

The team initially planned to play the game despite protests occurring in the surrounding area. One gate to Camden Yards was opened prior to the scheduled first pitch with fans allowed to enter. The rest of the stadium entrances remained closed, while police in riot gear stood guard. The decision to postpone the game comes after gates were closed during the Orioles game on Saturday and fans were asked to remain inside Camden Yards because of protests happening just outside of the stadium.
Public transportation was going to be limited for fans coming and going to the game due to route changes earlier in the day. Many Orioles players spent Monday afternoon in the clubhouse watching the protests around the city on television, according to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun. Some even took batting practice while police and news helicopters flew overhead.
Baltimore’s mayor announced later Monday the city would institute a weeklong 10 p.m. ET curfew to help quell the riots. The Orioles and Major League Baseball have yet to announce how this will affect the club’s schedule this week, with Baltimore set to host the White Sox on Tuesday and Wednesday night before welcoming the Rays for a weekend series on Friday night.
The Orioles could decide to play these games during the afternoon or move the series to another location, such as Nationals Park. However, there has been no announcement regarding any such changes as of yet.
A makeup date for Monday’s game has yet to be announced either. Vox.com has complete coverage of the protests in Baltimore.
