The Boston Red Sox took a 2-1 lead over the New York Yankees in the fourth inning on Friday night at Fenway Park, but their lead could have been wider were it not for an overeager fan down the left field line.
Red Sox fan costs team a run by touching ball in play
With Xander Bogaerts on first base and two outs, catcher Ryan Hanigan hit a ball down the left field line for a double. But a young fan reached out and touched the ball in play, making it an automatic ground rule double, holding Bogaerts -- who would have scored easily -- at third base.
Mookie Betts grounded out to end the inning, stranding both runners in scoring position.
